PRIME Minister James Marape says the Government is looking into wiping out duplications in public service operations to save cost.
He said the Government would be realigning many agencies, such as the Border Development Authority (BDA), to save cost.
“The Government had announced its decision to abolish the BDA,” Marape said.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Marape said some BDA functions would be transferred to the Department of Provincial Local Level Government Affairs (DPLLGA) and to PNG Defence Force.
“This bill is to ensure that we streamline and increase efficiency in the public service.
“The current audit and investigation carried out by the Finance Department must continue to monitor our assets,” he said.
Marape said some vessels were purchased by the agency but the Government had no record of where they were.
He said the department was asked to complete its investigation into the total assets and liabilities of these organisations as well as the subsidiary, PNG Maritime Ltd.
