Govt to screen programmes, avoid duplication

THE Government is ensuring that programmes are properly screened to avoid duplication and wastage, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven.
One example is the Department of Justice and Attorney-General’s community justice services centres and the Community Development Department’s district community development centre or Sanapim Post initiative, which will complement each other in delivering services in districts. He said an all-sector approach was needed to address law and order issues.
“In the current financial challenges that we are in, the government is very strict in ensuring that the programmes are scrutinised carefully to avoid duplication and wastage,” Steven said.
“That is one reason that National Executive Council decided that the Department of Youth, Religion and Community Development previously under the Social Sector be now part of the Law and Justice Sector.”
