SMALL-to-medium entrepreneur (SME) training participants in Huon Gulf, Morobe have called on the government to reach out to rural areas by providing business training to the local entrepreneurs.

Martha Agregum and Steve Yalambing, spokespersons at Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) workshop held at Wampar for Huon Gulf, said small village business people were disappointed due to the absence of training assistance from relevant government agencies.

Agregum said commerce officers in the district and provincial headquarters seemed unmotivated to go to the rural areas to expose the local entrepreneurs to the better way of managing livelihood activities.

“We, as women, need such training to enhance our ability to run a small business,” Agregum said.

However, she noted that 41 participants had benefited from the just-concluded workshop initiated by Huon Gulf administration and facilitated by SBDC.

The training included costing, pricing, market survey and planning, busines legal forms required, roles and responsibilities of the owner, cash flow plan, profit and loss plan, application for bank loans and writing business plans.
