THE Government will support the Labu Tale people of Huon Gulf in the billion kina special economic zone (SEZ) project in their village, says deputy prime minister and Commerce and Industry Minister Sam Basil.
Basil said Huon Gulf was fortunate to have two SEZ – one at Nadzab and one at Labu.
The K2 billion special economic zone will consist of a wharf and an industrial park.
“I am ready to take papers to the National Executive Council to have this project on and supported,” he said. “This is a very important project. Importantly, don’t disturb this project.”
Basil told the people to set up businesses to benefit from the spin-offs.
“Our job is to industrialise PNG,” he said. “You work with us and we will make it happen for you.”
Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour said it was an opportunity for the people.
