Govts’ poor effort slammed

The Government’s poor efforts in the elimination of labour and sex trafficking and the country’s low rating on the issues is extremely alarming and equally disgraceful to the Christian population of the nation, says the PNG Council of Churches.
Rev Roger Joseph, general secretary for the council, said it would be wrong for the churches to hide the sins of the times and claim of some biasness in the reporting,” he said referring to a report from the American embassy published in this paper on Monday
“The report is, in a way, for both the Government of the day and the churches to identify our failures in maintaining our stewardship of God’s precious creation and to seriously work together to address the issues reported,” he said.
“We strongly appeal to the government of the day to empower all appropriate government institutions to step up operations in ensuring that the failures indicated in the report by the Government be addressed.
“At the same time we appeal to all churches to be sensitive to what is happening in the communities around them in terms of labour and sex trafficking and to ensure to protect human dignity at all costs, even to the point of using referral pathways in addressing these issues.”
The churches see people as most valuable species in God’s creation, Joseph said.
