PAPUA New Guinea Football Association president John Kapi Natto is calling on the Highlands and New Guinea Islands to capitalise on the move to include teams from all four regions in the National Soccer League.
Kapi Natto said interested member associations from the two region needed to make mention to the interested teams of the newlook NSL before the close of the expressions of interest on Dec 31.
“When the NSL started in 2006, the competition was only played in the main centres like Port Moresby and Lae,” Kapi Natto said.
“But now that I’m the president, I want to bring the competition to the four regions of the country.
“Teams in the New Guinea Islands and the Highlands should grab this opportunity to showcase their talent.
“My vision is to make football inclusive.”
So far in NGI, only three teams have expressed interest while the Highlands has five teams, however, just one had already submitted its EOI and receipt of payment.
The teams from both region are not confirmed teams for the 2019 NSL season, a PNGFA statement said.
The ceiling for the number of teams competing in both regions is six each.
NSL manager Leslie Babaga said any submission of EOI after the closing date would not be accepted.
He said all EOI must be accompanied with a receipt of K5000 (non-refundable) and payment must be made to the account detailed in the EOI form.
According to the statement, all EOI submissions will have to be endorsed by the PNGFA and NSL boards before entry is granted.
The board will then advise all intending clubs of the outcome before they make a public announcement of the composition of the new-look competition.
Babaga called on interested teams to send in their EOI as soon as possible for deliberation by the PNGFA and NSL board.
The NSL season kicks off on Jan 19.
