Grace period for grade 12s ends on Friday

National

THE national online application system (Noas) 2020 grace period started yesterday and will end on Friday midnight.
Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology secretary Fr Jan Czuba told The National that grade 12 students were given five days to change their choices, unlike last year.
Last year, students were given two days to change their choices but this year the extended time was due the Covid-19 disruptions.
He said if the students see a red light on one or more choices, it meant they were no longer eligible for the programme.
Fr Jan urged students to make sure to change their choice on the programme in which their final grade 12 results met the minimum requirement.
If students do not view a programme on Noas, it meant they are not eligible for the programme.
He said in the first seven hours of the grace period, 1,500 students changed some of their choices, modifying almost 8,000 choices.
Fr Jan said the Higher Education Loan Programme (Help) was integrated with the Noas so grade 12 students would have options.
He said through their Noas student account, the students would have a Help button that would be enabled once the student has been successfully selected.
This indicated the eligibility of the student to apply.
According to a student user guide, the Noas is an online system which has now replaced the traditional conventional paper-based school leaver form.
Noas is a new system introduced in 2018 by higher education to facilitate the application process of grade 12 students applying to tertiary institutions.
