Graduates challenged to make use of their second chance

THE primary responsibility in life is to learn and become agents of change in society and the country, a university official says.
Divine Word University St Benedict’s Wewak campus vice-president Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj told this to the third batch of matriculation student graduates last Friday.
“Be agents of change – ask ‘how’ instead of ‘why’ and accept the challenges in order to think of ways to move forward,” he said.
“You have to be qualified intellectually, spiritually and humanly in order to be an active player on the ground, so change your mentality of helplessness and think positively in order to transform.”
Thirty-four out of 100 matriculation students who completed upgrading their grade 11 and 12 marks are now certified to compete for spaces in tertiary institutions.
Education faculty dean Associate Prof Joseph Lingua Kekeya said: “You have realised that despite dropping out and being seen as a failure, DWU SBC has given you another chance to cross over and be connected to the other side of the world.
“It is up to you to push on.”
Matriculation and upgrading coordinator Michael Gao said enrolment for next year’s matriculation studies was open.
DWU also has matriculation centres in the Maprik and Yangoru-Saussia, with plans to expand to other districts of East Sepik.
