HIGHER Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister Nick Kuman has instructed institutions to postpone graduation ceremonies and large gatherings as part of his ministry’s preventive measure against the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).
Kuman said all institutions must introduce preventative measures recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO).
“It is also vital to isolate those who are suffering from ‘flu-like’ symptoms of fever, continuous cough or a runny nose,” he said.
“Sporting fixtures and events must also cease to take place.”
He urged each institution to be prepared in the event the virus reached their communities.
“Difficult times require tough courses of action and sound leadership,” he said.
“I do apologise for the interruption to the smooth running of your institution.
“However, the actions outlined are essential to the safety of your students and staff.”
Kuman advised secretary Fr Jan Czuba to be in touch with heads of institutions to provide assistance and information regarding the instructions
Kuman urged institutions to pass the message to students, staff and their families.
Meanwhile, the University of Technology (Unitech) in Lae, Morobe, announced that it was postponing its 52nd graduation ceremony.

Dr Renagi said as a result all Unitech students recommended by the academic board to graduate would get their certificates and academic transcripts by mail on April 3. “The graduates can contact the acting examination officer on 473 4285 and for post graduates 473 4280 and all email enquiries can be directed to http://[email protected].
