ANGLIMP-South Waghi MP Jamie Maxtone-Graham has condemned the police officers who manhandled Peter O’Neill and his team of MPs on Tuesday outside Government House.
O’Neill was trying to enter to be sworn in by Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio.
Maxtone-Graham expressed alarm at the way the “leaders” of the nation were treated with disrespect.
He called the officers “rogue policemen” and condemned their actions as irresponsible and politically motivated.
But NCD police superintendent operations Andy Bawa told a gathering of city residents last Thursday at Waigani, the rogue officers were few.
He said not all police officers should be branded in such a way as taking sides with the Somare and O’Neill factions.
“Ol polis ol neutral ol ino supportim wanpla. Wok blo mipla em lo lukautim ol manmeri. Igat wanwan man I wokim displa biket.” (The police are neutral. Our job is to take care of the citizens. There are a few who are rogue),” Bawa said.
