A 60-YEAR-OLD man was committed to stand trial in the National Court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old granddaughter in Port Moresby about a year ago.
Waigani committal court magistrate Paul Puri Nii said the girl’s statement showed she was sexually abused by her grandfather between 2018 and 2020.
“The evidence of persistence sexual abuse is confirmed when the medical reports confirmed her pregnancy,” he added.
The grandfather had last Dec 16 asked the Court to make a ruling based on the police evidence which was served last September.
The grandfather allegedly started sexually abusing his granddaughter when she was a grade 3 schoolgirl.
The girl recalled her grandfather had on many occasions between 2018 and 2020, fondled her breasts and raped her.
She did not report the rapes until in 2020 when she was experiencing some physical changes in her body.
Later, some of the family members recognised the changes on her body and the girl told them what had happened when asked.
The grandfather claimed the allegations against him were false.
“I spent most of my time at my work place and support my children,” he said.
“I do not stay in the house often to do such things.”
