Grounded chopper delays marking of exams

A TRANSPORT hiccup has delayed the marking of grade 8 examination papers for more than 15000 Morobe students.
Morobe senior education officer Alfred Tobem said the helicopter that was supposed to pick up the exam papers two weeks ago broke down.
He said the late start to the marking was also due to some schools, especially in Lae, not submitting student information booklets on time.
“Grade nine selections will be done straight after the marking,” Tobem said.
“The answer sheets arrival was delayed so we started last week due to logistics problem.
“Everything is on track and marking is going on smoothly without any hiccups, with support from education division.” One hundred markers – 77 from other districts and 23 from Lae – mostly primary school teachers, are doing the work.
They marked exam papers of 15,027 students of 332 primary schools in the province including permitted schools – Lae Salvation Army Primary, Coronation College and Lae Christian Academy.
