Group provides sewing, tailoring training for villagers

A GROUP of women and men are providing training on sewing and tailoring.
They are certified trainers and have facilitated sewing machine repair and garment tailoring for 30 other women in Papa recently.
Ten women and two men from Papa village in Central, took part in the one week refresher training on sewing machine repair and tailoring to diversify their income earning opportunities.
The training was made possible through the partnership of Diari Tailoring Project and Advancing PNG Women Leaders Network (APNG WLN) .
Training facilitator Doreka Dai acknowledged the support of ExxonMobil PNG. “There was a greater need to equip women and men with skills and knowledge who can then sustain their families and communities benefit as well.’’
ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea community development support manager Debbie Maraki said the company was happy to support initiatives to equip people with the tools they needed to improve their lives.
“When women and men are economically empowered, they invest their earnings in education, nutrition and health care of their children and families.
“Thus contribute to the development of their communities,” she said.
