A SECURITY guard was injured when robbers raided a shop in Madang yesterday morning, police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“The robbers carted away cartons of beef,” he said.
“The guard has been hospitalised.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said police were confident of making arrests soon.
“Robberies and burglaries are being reported daily,” he said.
“And most of the culprits are teenagers.
“I encourage the public to initiate citizen’s arrest whenever possible.
“Police are down with manpower and logistics and our response might be late.
“So it is best to make a citizen’s arrest when you think it is safe.
“If it is not safe, try to make sure you identify the suspects or take photos of the suspects so it will help police with their investigations.
“We appeal to keep an eye on their teenage children when they are home for the holiday.
“It is your responsibility to discipline your children when they misbehave or do wrong.
“When parents fail to monitor their children, they (children) end up with their peers and are sometimes pressured or influenced into doing the wrong things.”
