A strong comeback in the dying stages of the match saw Gulf Komara forcing a 2-2 draw with Port Moresby United in round five of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Southern Conference at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Saturday.
Komara had switched off due to poor midfield combination for more than 82 minutes.
But the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored side came alive as their forwards put on a stellar performance to draw the contest at the final whistle.
Komara’s struggles paid off when Numa Kila (83rd minute) and Ryan Gerega (88th) found the target to salvage a point.
United were leading 1-0 at the interval with a header from Iamo Makena in the 26th minute.
Makena was at it again after the break, finding the target in the 48th minute to extend United’s lead.
The city boys were better organised and featured prominently against their opposition.
This had resulted in Komara being put under pressure for much of the fixture.
United had several opportunities to extend their lead, but their shots were off target.
Komara goalkeeper George Gerega stepped up his game after conceding two goals.
United were the better team on the day and were working tirelessly on the edges to create opportunities for their forwards.
But Komara clicked into gear late in the match to force a draw with the National Capital District Commission-sponsored side.
Even after Komara had equalised, United a few opportunities to steal the match but were unable to finish off.
