Gulf students benefit from trade skills training

Education

TOTAL E&P PNG Ltd has sponsored 41 students from Gulf to attend the Port Moresby Technical College.
After completing the national certificate 1 (NCI) programme this year, successful students would progress to NC2 and NC3 next year.
Over 200 students applied for the Tvet scholarship programme.
The programme is aimed at building the capacity of Gulf students. Students can apply for jobs with contractors during the construction of the Papua LNG project facilities.
Mechanical fitting student Mika Milaura said: “It’s a privilege that Total recognised us and has shown our local government that even youths in the villages have the skills to work in the province”. Building and construction student Ipai Aua said: “Aid posts and health centres have not been renovated or maintained.” Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta said the students were needed in the province.
