Gumine-Karamui road project

Letters

I WRITE on behalf of the people of Mt Au living along the borders of Gumine and Karamui districts of Chimbu.
We support the concerns raised by Welteke Yobadibol (The National, Oct 11) regarding the Gumine-Karamui road project.
I call on the member for Anglimp South Waghi MP Joe Kuli and Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp to support our reques to the national Government for the work on the Gumine- Karamui road to continue because it is the only road to Minz, Jiwaka, via Kundiawa.
We are raising this issue because we hear that the Works Department is thinking of diverting the funds to pay for a new road through Chuave. If that happens then our door to the outside world will be closed.
Even though we are part of the Jiwaka, the Gumine-Karamui road will open the door to new opportunities.
Our women are no longer carrying loads in bilum and babies on top and walking for hours because we now have PMVs.
I thank the Government for the funding of K30 million and the Simbu Provincial Government for supervising the road project.
This road has made it easier for our people to take their produce to the market.

Emmie Agupe
