THEIR 2016 OFC Nations Cup runners-up performance has seen several PNG Kapul players going places to pursue their football careers.
The latest is Lae City Dwellers captain and this year’s OFC Nations Cup golden boot winner Raymond Gunemba, who left on Monday for Auckland, New Zealand, to join Eastern Suburb FC for the winter competition.
Gunemba said he would play for the club during the Northern Regional Football League and then to their ASB Premiership or National League New Zealand in summer.
Raymond led his Lae City Dwellers during the this year’s OFC Champions League in Auckland in April early this year and was spotted by Eastern Suburb.
Gunemba thanked Eastern Suburb for giving him the opportunity to expose his talent at this high calibre competition in New Zealand.
He thanked PNGFA for releasing his international transfer certificate, and his family and supporters for sticking with him during his semi-professional career.
The PNG striker thanked former PNG player Gari Moka and Urban Consultants for helping him consolidate his offer from Eastern Suburb.
He urged young players to put God first, “discipline yourself and you will be successful in your football.”
Gunemba is the third Lae City Dweller players to move overseas to play football.
The first was Nigel Dabinyaba who signed up with a club in Brisbane, while Michael Foster is playing for Malaita Kingz in the S-League in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Other PNG players taking part in the S-League include Hekari United foursome David Muta, Koriak Upaiga, Daniel Joe and Tommy Semmy, who are all with Marist FC.
