PAPUA New Guinea international Raymond Gunemba has apologised to the PNG Football Association (PNGFA) for ill-discipline during last year’s Pacific Games which cost him a 2021 call-up.
Nigel Dabinyaba, Jacob Sabua, Ishmael Pole, Ronald Warisan and Langarap Samol were the other Papua New Guinea internationals who had been omitted on disciplinary grounds.
On behalf of Dabinyaba, Pole, Warisan, Sabua, Samol, Joshua Talau and Alex Kamen, the 34-year-old told The National on Monday that their actions had tainted the image of PNG football.
“We apologise for our ill-discipline when representing the country at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa,” the Hekari striker said.
“Our unruly behaviour and attitude painted a bad picture of PNGFA and the rest of football fraternity in the country.
“We want to apologise to the football fraternity and the public for our bad behaviour.”
Former Lae City skipper Gunemba said despite their omission, they remained hopeful of representing the country again.
“We appeal to PNGFA to give us a chance as we raise our hands for national duties,” he said.
“We’d like to represent the country again and give our best shot.”
Earlier this month, PNGFA named two train-on squads which will play a best-of-three series prior to the naming of the final group which will compete in the Fifa World Cup qualifiers next year.
