National Soccer League defending champions Toti City FC visited inmates at Buimo Prison in Lae yesterday as part of their obligation to give back to the community.
City, led by captain Raymond Gunemba, donated boxes of Snax biscuits from the Lae Biscuit Company and K1200 worth of items from Panamex Pacific.
“The purpose of our visit is to encourage our brothers, uncles, sisters and aunties to serve and believe in God,” he said.
“The inmates must believe in God no matter what situation they are in.
“We have programmes for schools but Buimo Prison is an important place to visit.
“We never forget you (inmates) in our prayers.
“This small tokens from Lae Biscuit Company and Panamex Pacific will help you in your daily rations.
“You are in prison, but remember that God is present.
“So after you serve your time, come out and be good ambassadors of the country.”
Commander Felix Namani praised City for taking time out from their NSL grand final preparations to visit the inmates.
“They have the heart for the prisoners, who are family,” Namani said.
