Gunemba wants PNGFA to grant late transfer for players

FORMER Lae City coach Peter Gunemba has appealed to the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) to allow six Papua New Guinea internationals who walked out on the club to play with other franchises.
The players are Nigel Dabinyaba, Raymond Gunemba, Emmanuel Simon, Ronald Warisan, Jacob Sabua and Obert Bika.
The five-time Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League title-winning coach claimed yesterday that Lae Biscuit Company managing director Ian Chow and his management had deliberately announced his sacking on Thursday — a day before the close of the domestic transfer window.
Gunemba told The National that it meant that the players were now without a club for the remainder of the season.
He said PNGFA should understand the situation and grant an exemption for the players.
“I was sacked on Thursday and the transfer window closed the next day,” Gunemba said.
“The players who walked out had no chance to move to other franchises.
“This is unfortunate and unfair.
“There are a number of representative players who are now without a club.
“We’ve got international games coming up for the national team and for the good of football, these players must be granted an exemption.”
Gunemba urged Chow to process the players’ release letters quickly so that they could move on.
Meanwhile, he claimed that Chow’s statements in the media and his views regarding the current situation of the club were based on assumptions.
He said he would release a press statement later this week.
