THE lack of appropriate parking space for cars at the Goroka Airport will be addressed when the National Airport Corporation allocates land for that use, Minister for Civil Aviation Lekwa Gure said.
Gure made the response to questions from Goroka MP Henry Ame who claimed that while the people of Eastern Highlands enjoyed the benefit of a new terminal, the lack of a vehicle car park was affecting access to the airport.
Ame said vehicles would park on the side of the main road and that was a concern for the commuters.
Gure said the revamped Goroka Airport was boon for the province and would enable an expanded service to Eastern Highlands.
He said the three groups who used the facility on a daily basis were staff of the airlines, the travelling public and retail outlets.
Gure said the government through the NAC would utilise available land it owned for a parking space for vehicles.
In another question without notice, Bougainville regional member Joe Lera asked Minister Gure to explain why two contracts for the Buka Airport fencing and the maintenance of the Buka airport terminal had not been completed although contracts were awarded.
Lera said the contract for the Buka airport fencing was given to a company outside of Bougainville in 2015 and a subcontract given to a local company but work had not started.
He said the contract for the airport terminal refurbishment had been awarded but work had started and asked Gure to provide them
