RABAUL Gurias have appointed former SP Hunters prop Joe Bruno as the head trainer for the next two Digicel Cup seasons, says head coach Francis Ray.
Ray, who joined the team last Thursday, said the Hunters foundation player was a talented athlete who would bring experience to the Agmark-sponsored team for the upcoming season. “It’s exciting that Bruno is back with the team after some years,” the former Papua New Guinea Kumuls told The National.
“I am looking forward to work with him in the coming Digicel Cup season.
“He was one of the best forwards from 2009 to 2014 with the Gurias.
“He has a solid record from his playing days.
“With that reputation, the whole team will be more than happy to work alongside him this year.”
Bruno was one of the best Gurias forwards when he got a call-up to join the Hunters in their 2014 in the Hostplus Cup (formerly Queensland Intrust Super Cup).
From East New Britain and West New Britain, he was later released from the Hunters squad in 2016 after sustaining an ankle and knee injury, but stayed on as a trainer until 2019.
“I congratulate Bruno,” Ray said.
“With his experience at the top level, I believe his contribution will have an impact on the team.
“He has been with the Hunters for some time and I am happy that he will add value to the team in the new season.
“So I’m looking forward to working with him from this year.”
