Gurias eye rebound

THE Rabaul Gurias will look to bounce back from Sunday’s 16-24 loss to the Lae Tigers when they face the Kimbe Cutters in Port Moresby tomorrow (3.30pm kick-off).
“It comes down to how well we prepare,” Gurias manager Mapua Tamtu told The National ahead of their round-four Digicel Cup fixture at Sir John Guise Stadium.
“We can’t take the Cutters lightly.
“We would like to take it one game at a time and do what we do best.
“It just comes down to discipline.
“We tend to make mistakes like dropped balls and missed tackles which you can’t afford when you play a team like defending champions Tigers.
“We’re back to our usual training and recovery but the boys are ready for the Cutters game.
“We’ve learnt a lot from the Tigers match.
“We have polished up on our defence and attack.
“The Cutters have recruited SP Hunter Justin Yoka who stood out against the Central Dabaris last weekend.”
The Cutters will be banking on their halves combination of Yoka and Tony Ponda.
Last weekend’s improved performance from Cutters second-rower Steven Yei and centre Benji Kot will see Kimbe face their biggest test yet in neighbours Rabaul.
Meanwhile, the Dabaris will be looking to dominate possession when they face the Enga Mioks in Port Moresby on Sunday.
Dabaris head coach Bagelo Solien blamed “silly errors” for his side’s 16-16 draw to the Kimbe Cutters last weekend.
“We have to minimise the number of dropped balls,” he said.
“We’ve just got to tighten up our defence.
“We’ve got a quality side and we’re improving.
“Some things happen on the field that we don’t have control over but we’ve working hard on them and we’ll try our best to sharpen up this weekend,” Tamtu said.
