Gurias with shot at minor title

THE Rabaul Gurias still have a chance to claim minor honours while the Hela Wigmen will look to build momentum heading into the finals when they face Waghi Tumbe and Gulf Isou respectively on Sunday.
Both matches are part of Port Moresby’s triple-header which will also feature the Vipers-Lae Tigers clash in round 11 of the Digicel Cup at Sir John Guise Stadium. For the Gurias, they will be up against the Dusty Mockley-coached Tumbe, who are desperate for a win to hang onto sixth spot.
Former champions Gurias will mean business because a win for them and a Tigers loss could see them claim the minor premiership.
The Gurias have recorded eight wins, one draw and one loss with 17 competition points while the defending champions have 18.
However, the Marcus Kaugla-coached side will face a determined Tumbe outfit.
“The game against the Gurias is very important as our season is on the line,” Mockley said.
“We are confident that we have what it takes to beat them as we’ve improved a lot in the last fortnight.” Tumbe are wary of the seventh-placed Kimbe Cutters and Enga Mioks, who are in eighth spot.
A loss for Tumbe could see them miss out on the top-six playoffs.
For the Wigmen, coach Charlie Wabo is satisfied with their win over reigning champions Tigers, adding that they would look to maintain that intensity.
