PRESIDENT of the Mt Hagen Rugby League Samuel Buka has praised his Hagen Doa rugby league team for making the finals in the 2010 Western Highlands province Governor’s Cup.
Buka said in Mt Hagen yesterday that his team had come through very well to be in the top of pool A since the competition kicked off.
He said that it was a clear sign that they would be the best team come grand final, with only TN Wagmul West in the way, in this Sunday’s semi-finals.
Buka said most of his players were young, but had blossomed under the coaching of Kumul, Francis Ray and trainer Mike Morris.
Hagen Doa have proven their ability since season started, to be at the top of pool A, with a second team Doa 2, currently in preparation for next week’s 2010 Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup.
Both teams came out champions at last year’s Highlands Zone trials and have continued their great form earning Buka’s praises.
Buka also added that Mt Hagen Rugby League, the pioneer competition in the province had been at a low, over the past eight years, without support and sponsorship, until last years National Gaming Control Board K30,000 saver.
“The money really assisted with the running of the finals”, Buka said.
NGCB have now again come in with a total K40,000 package for the season, and Buka extended his heartfelt thanks to the organization.
Coca Cola Amitil also jumped on the Mt Hagen Rugby League bandwagon with attire, through caps and t-shirts.
