Haiveta wants LNG project to benefit Gulf people

Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta says his people must receive maximum benefit when the Papua LNG project kicks off.
He told The National that there were adequate consultations at all levels, including landowners’ social mapping process, and with key leaders of the pipeline route and the petroleum development license (PDL) areas.
“We want to receive maximum benefits from day one, from early works through to when construction ends and picking up royalties and equity,” Haiveta said.
“We are working with Mineral Resources Development Company and Kumul Petroleum Holdings to ensure that structures are in place for landowners to have same companies set up.
“These companies must be officially recognised through the ministerial determination of landowners, with incorporated land groups.”
Haiveta said things were being done early before the development forum, issuing of licences, establishment of pipeline export facilities and upstream processing.
He welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill the Papua LNG agreement would be signed next month, saying they were advanced in their preparation.
