MADANG Governor Peter Yama and Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta have been recommended for awards in the Queen’s Birthday Imperial Honours and Awards, says acting official secretary to Governor General Bill Toraso.
Toraso said the recommendation had since been sent to Buckingham Palace, England for approval.
He said once approval had been given, the appropriate awards and titles would be awarded to the two governors.
“The process for nomination for awards under Imperial Honours and Awards for Yama and Haiveta was done and sent to London awaiting final approval.
“Once approval is given, both governors will be notified to receive their awards with the appropriate titles,” he said.
Toraso said this to clarify a recent media report that referred to Yama as Sir Peter even though he was not awarded a knighthood by the governor-general.
