The Hanuabada Village Fire Relief Trust Account surpassed the K190,000 mark yesterday morning.
Fire relief committee spokesperson Molly Isaac said the public and business houses “showed tremendous support in raising more than K196,000”.
“The amount is expected to increase as many donations in cash and kind have been coming in all day today (yesterday),” she said.
Isaac said it was “wonderful to see people coming in and supporting the village”.
“Churches have come, the United Church has donated K30,000 and the Church of Latter Day Saints have donated all the basic necessities like mattresses and mosquito nets,” Isaac said.
“Business houses and organisations have also come and the general public including the Hanuabada community as well.”
Isaac said they were working towards a deadline that they had set for rebuilding their homes.
“First is the relief, then the rehabilitation and then we will start rebuilding our homes.
“But we are thankful to everyone who has come and supported us, their support has given us the strength to work towards our goal,” she said.
