Happy to have Digicel stay

Letters

PAPUA New Guinea was revolutionised socially, culturally and, most importantly, economically by Digicel Pacific through hard work of John Mangos and Lorna McPherson, to name a few, including the visionary tycoon Irish owner Denis O’Brien.
Papua New Guineans sincerely and wholeheartedly thank Digicel for the numerous benefits it has
received as a country and individually in the country’s 22 provinces.
The sale of Digicel Pacific to Telstra is solely a decision of the owner and the company.
And we have zero problems with this decision.
For the interest of PNG, as a country of and estimated 10 million people, many obvious reasons are prompting some of us to object the sale.
We want the Government to intervene, via ICCC, and review all the issues we are objecting and find a win-win for PNG, Telstra, Digicel, and other key stakeholders.
That’s all.
Otherwise, we would love Digicel to stay in PNG and continue its diverse business interests to help the nation’s economy and people.
