NEWLY-promoted soldiers from the Goldie Training Depot outside Port Moresby were told that hard work and commitment to duty and responsibility lead to promotion.

Forty one non-commissioned officers were promoted to senior ranks last Friday as part of celebrations of the depot’s 46th anniversary.

Defence Force chief of staff Colonel Mark Goina who officiated at the ceremony said most of the soldiers promoted had earned it through hard work, loyalty and commitment to the force and to their responsibilities and duties.

“The journey in your career does not end there. You have travelled a journey of one set of rank and now to a journey to go and achieve something else has just started,” Goina said.

“Importantly your work output is very important.

“You can all be recognised if your output contributes to the overall plan.”

He said another key issue was to ensure that each soldier was qualified to be promoted to the next level.

He said all had done well in their qualifying courses to be capable of getting their new ranks.

Of the 41, five where promoted to chief warrant officers, two to warrant officers, 16 to sergeants and 18 to corporals.
