ELIUD Hosea scored a double to help the Harlequins beat the Wanderers 25-13 in round four of the Capital Rugby Union’s premier division at Bava Park in Port Moresby on Saturday.
A physical Harlequins outfit led from the start till the end with fullback Sawi Sukumbal converting two of their three tries and kicking two penalty goals.
The Wanderers’ points came from unconverted tries by Allan Capams and Jason Ovia, and one penalty goal by fullback Jared Maniana.
Both teams were locked at 3-3 in the opening 20 minutes, courtesy of penalty goals.
Hosea scored the opening try on the left edge and a successful conversion saw the Harlequins lead 10-3 at halftime.
Centre Philip Singoina extended the Harlequins’ lead to 17-3 with a converted try two minutes after the break.
The Wanderers were able to score their first try through Ovia to trail 8-17 after two-thirds of the game had gone.
But the Harlequins extended their lead to 22-8 when Hosea completed his double 10 minutes from fulltime.
The Wanderers scored a consolation try in the dying stages of match through Capams.
The Harlequins — led by Trevor Meaporo, Andre Terere, Simon Mirupasi and Ben Levi — were strong in the breakdown which allowed them to dominate possession.
The Wanderers had a high rate of turnovers which didn’t help their cause.
Meanwhile, in the earlier match, defending champions Brothers eased past Valley Hunters with a 27-7 victory.
Paul Nelson, Robin Lomai, Arthur Clement and Mosley Amesa all scored a try each for the Brothers.
