THE Hawks edged Sisters 9-4 to bag their maiden Port Moresby Rugby League women’s crown at the National Football Stadium yesterday.
Five-eighth Lila Malabag slotted a field to lead 5-4 in the first five minutes of extra time after the scores were locked at 4-4 at the end of regulation time.
Fullback Martha Molowia crossed over for an unconverted try seconds before the final hooter to put the icing on the cake for the Hawks.
They walked away with K10,000 for their efforts.
Sisters went into half time leading 4-0, thanks to a try through centre Lavinia Boru.
After the break, the Hawks equalised through centre Naomi Sinaka.
Both teams had the opportunities to post points but were let down by handling errors.
Hawks coach Nao Boge was happy with his team for clinching the title after making their debut last season.
