THE Tent City Health Centre board of management were sworn in this week.
They include six members who represent each stage in Tent City.
Chairman of the board Robert Yonny said the health centre needed a board to represent the community and liaise with existing authorities in the government to improve primary healthcare.
“The health centre was established in 1983 by the Lutheran Church through the Lutheran Health Services to cater for health services in the Tent City community,” Yonny said.
“Unfortunately, this health centre has had boards but for unknown reasons, people left.
“The centre has been functioning without a board for the last 10n years.”
Yonny said the community and health workers here have decided to formalise a board, and they asked the Health Department, provincial government and Lae district to facilitate it.
“There are about three organisations looking after this health centre,” Yonny said.
