Health inspectors urged to work

HEALTH inspectors throughout the country have been urged to work with the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) because some shops are allegedly selling expired goods.
This was the message from ICCC commissioner and chief executive officer Paulus Ain in Mt Hagen yesterday after his staff confiscated expired goods sold at some shops in the Highlands.
Ain said he sent his officers to 12 provinces to ensure that retailers were complying with the price regulation for certain goods and services.
He said the officers would also check if businesses were selling expired goods or those not fit for sale and these establishments would be prosecuted.
Ain said after two weeks, his officers had been confiscating expired goods sold on the shelves.
He also called on health inspectors in the provinces to do their part by visiting businesses to ensure they were operating safely and following health regulations.
“We have to make sure that all shop owners, supervisors and staff comply with the rules and regulations,” he said.
“While the country is still in a state of emergency (SOE), service providers and business houses must not take that is an opportunity to increase this mark ups or sell anything bad on their shelves.”
Ain encouraged the public to report businesses operating without due care for customers or the laws. He said monitoring increases in PMV fares was transport role.
