Health sector a major government priority, says O’Neill

PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill is impressed with the re-development of the Goroka Provincial Hospital.
He paid a courtesy visit to the hospital yesterday and assured the management that the Government would continue to support the re-development of provincial hospitals around the country.
O’Neill said his government was committed to serving people’s needs.
He said health received a significant increase in the 2018 Budget to allow for continuous and smooth flow of services in the country.
“The health sector is one of the major priorities of the Government. it will continue to receive funding and the necessary support of this Government to ensure that smooth flow of health services are reaching the people,” O’Neill said.
Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu thanked O’Neill and assured him that the new infrastructure would be well catered to serve the people of Eastern Highlands and neighbouring provinces.
Chairman of the Eastern Highlands health authority Malcolm Kela Smith said it was critical for people to have access to improved healthcare in a modern facility.
