Healthcare lacking, says MP

MANY Papua New Guineans are dying from curable diseases because healthcare is lacking, says Mendi-Munihu MP Raphael Tonpi.
“They are also not seeking medical treatment because the cost is not affordable. They also have to pay for transport and this cause financial hardship to their families,” he added.
Tonpi said because of health problems, families go through financial stress, jeopardising their ability to earn a living.
“Awareness will be carried out in the district on lifestyle diseases and ways to look after their health with the support from the Southern Highlands health authority,” he said.
“Health is one key area and the district development authority (DDA) has plans to prioritise the provision of quality primary health care. “The DDA will take stock of all health facilities, revive facilities that were closed, facilities improved and provide essential drugs, qualified health workers and life saving equipment.”
