Heavy rain causes flooding in Kimbe, damages roads

THE approaches to two bridges between Kimbe and Bialla in West New Britain have been washed away, disrupting traffic.
Provincial Works manager Aura Panka said the two bridges were not damaged and the approaches would be repaired once it stopped raining.
The flooded Ivule River washed way a section of the road on Sunday.
Traffic between Kimbe and Talasea was temporarily halted when a crack appeared on the bridge near Wandoro.
New Britain Palm Oil Limited quickly did repairs allowing traffic to pass through.
Oil palms in areas including Kumbango, houses at Banalue village, banana and other fruit trees were flooded.
The Dagi River burst its banks with water reaching the Nahavio Market. Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Emergency and Response Centre has warned people not to travel on small boats from Kimbe to Bali Vitu and the South Coast areas.
It has also warned people not to travel along the New Britain Highway because of flooding.
West New Britain has been experiencing continuous rain and strong winds since Friday.
