HEKARI United continued their perfect start in the National Soccer League Southern Conference and Central Dabaris bagged their second win on the trot during in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Brothers Nigel and Peter Dabinyaba helped Hekari outclass newcomers Southern Youth 4-0 in the conference’s main clash of round three at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
The opening match of Port Moresby’s triple-header saw the Dabaris beat fellow rookies Tavur, of West New Britain, 2-1.
Tavur began the match on the front foot with skipper Cyril Roka and his men finding space against the hosts. Striker Francis Wibewa gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at halftime.
But the Dabaris regrouped after the break with skipper Karo Iga leading from the backline to starve Tavur of possession.
Tavur’s Ryan Ijari stopped early second-half attempts on goal, but the goalkeeper finally surrendered an Iga Kala equaliser in the 66th minute.
The Dabaris continued their attack with substitute Kawai Vakona delivering the winner in the 77th minute.
“Our plan was to score first and not come from behind,” Dabaris coach Kila Babaga said.
“Teams come under a lot of pressure when they fall behind in matches.
“The message at halftime was to hold onto possession and play some running football.
“And I think that’s what got us in front.”
