HEKARI United are looking to recruit four international players to boost their campaign in the upcoming Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League, says club manager Vonnie Kapi Natto.
She told The National yesterday that although their recruitment had not been finalised yet, she was in contact with potential recruits from overseas.
The men’s team will kick off their preparations under coach Eric Komeng in Port Moresby tomorrow.
“I’m thinking of recruiting four international players,” Kapi Natto said.
“I haven’t confirmed that, but I have been communicating with many of them.
“I have a big number of international players to check, whether they can be part of the team in the domestic competition and the (Oceania Football Confederation) Champion’s League.”
Kapi Natto said she advised the interested international players that a decision would be made after the outcome of the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL).
“I’m seriously considering this because we (Hekari) want to go further in the Champion’s League,” she said.
“I want to see our younger ones included, so we are going to involve players like Joseph Joe, Moses Joe, Solomon Wani, Freddy Kepo and Frank Toboroyan.
“Having these youngsters play alongside senior players like David Muta, Michael Foster and Koriak Upaiga will be good for us.
“I’m looking forward to this season, I know it will be tough without Nigel Dabinyaba and Raymond Gunemba who has been recruited by a club in Fiji.
“But I believe we have a good squad, especially our local players.
“If we are lucky, will get international players. But that will depend on the Covid-19 restrictions.”
Meanwhile, Kapi Natto said she would finalise the squad after meeting with them on their return to camp.
