HEKARI United’s slump in form continues as the Papua New Guinea champions lost their second consecutive Oceania Champions League match to Solomon Warriors 4-2 at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara on Saturday.

This is the worst performance by the club since its involvement in the premier Oceania competition.

The latest loss means after a brief stint at the top of the region Hekari is hugging the bottom of Pool A.

Fiji’s Ba are now outright leaders after their 2-0 win over Vanuatu’s Amicale last weekend.

Ba and Amicale will represent Pool A and will play the top two sides from Pool B.

The Solomon Warriors took a massive advantage by racing into a three-goal lead within half an hour, Gagame Feni getting the scoring under way in the 11th minute before two strikes from Moffat Kilifa – in the 13th and 27th minutes – appeared to present Hekari with an insurmountable challenge.

Hekari gave themselves a ray of hope when Joachim Waroi scored only their second goal of the season in the 43rd minute but found themselves three behind again just seconds later as Feni joined Kilifa in notching a brace.

The Lawson Tama faithful had to wait until the 89th minute for another goal to be fired in, Hekari’s Raymond Gunemba finishing after a neat one-two with Nigel Dabingyaba.

Coach Jerry Allen admitted they had struggled to find form.
