THE Hekari United men’s team will take the weekend off to rest from their recent Oceania Football Confederation Champions League campaign before preparing for the Premier Soccer League season that starts next month.
Team manager Vonnie Kapi Natto said she was proud of the progress shown by the young players despite the team bowing out of the tournament held in Vanuatu on Sunday.
“We have a very young team compared to the champions of Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Tahiti that we played against and I’m very proud of the team,” Kapi Natto said yesterday upon arrival from Vanuatu.
“I believe this competition helped our young boys, not only for our team but for the national team.
“We just need to work hard and hopefully we can bring in some strength, some way to help these young boys and I think we can compete.
“But to me I’m satisfied after I have taken this transition to the team.”
Kapi Natto said the team would work hard in the upcoming competition as many good teams would be competing in the premier league.
“Our only goal now is to work hard, continue to keep our discipline, focus and concentrate and see how we go in this National Premier League. But I have great confidence with this young boys,” she said.
“With the quality side that we have, I believe they have a long way to go and that’s encouraging for me.
“They will rest for a few days before going back full swing at training while I shift my focus to the women’s team who are gearing up for the women’s O-League.
“Hopefully our ladies can pull this off,” she said ahead of the inaugural women’s tournament.
