HEKARI United FC remained undefeated in the Telikom National Soccer League after they defeated Tukoko University 1-0 in their midweek clash Port Moresby yesterday.
Defender Koriak Upaiga was the hero after fired a penalty straight into the net to seal the match for Hekari.
Both teams were scoreless in the opening half.
Sensing the game was slipping away, Hekari started making some changes by bringing in striker Jean Kaltak for Raymond Gunemba.
Coach Mathew Witu also brought in Bruce Kusunan for Nigel Dabinyaba, which paid handsomely for Hekari.
The Reds midfield general David Muta, although looking a little overweight, carried his assured O-League form and was rarely pushed.
University also picked up some good players from other NSL clubs such as Armstrong Peka (Morobe FC), Valentine Nelson (Morobe FC), Gary Moka, Frank Tulem (Madang Fox), Sowera Guti (Inter University) and Danny Barnabas (CPL Eastern Star) which provided good support for the Harrison Kamakem-coached team.
The game could have gone either way had striker Barnabas found the net.
Armstrong had a couple of chances to score but his shots were way off the mark.
The draws for this weekend is: Gigira Laitepo Central Coast will play Petro Souths in Port Moresby while there will be a double-header in Lae.
The opening match will see Besta United taking on MMJV Bulolo United while the main game will see Eastern Star play Tukoko University.
The unofficial ladder: Hekari 9, Central Coast 6, Eastern Star 4, Bulolo 4, Besta United 3, Tukoko 0 and Petro Souths 0.
