HEKARI United beat Port Moresby Strikers 2-1 in round two of the Women’s National Soccer League Southern Conference at Port Moresby’s Papua New Guinea Football Stadium on Saturday.
Hekari skipper Marie Kaipu bagged the opening goal for her side in the first half through a penalty kick as they led 1-0 into the break.
Bougainville recruit Callista Maneo netted another goal for Hekari in the second half, thanks to a pass from Kaipu before Strikers’ Arnolda Dou converted a goal for her side.
“Coming into that game, we know it wasn’t going to be an easy game, but we stuck to our game plan and scored two goals,” Hekari coach Erickson Komeng told The National.
“We didn’t play well, but I’m happy that we got the three points as that’s important for us.
“I’m happy with the result, but we have to be clinical in every department of the game.
“We’ll get back to work on Monday and look forward to playing Amoana in our next match.”
