Hela has district doctors

Hela has moved ahead of other provinces by having residential doctors in all of its districts.
This milestone was attained through partnerships between the Hela health authority, Komo-Margarima, Koroba-Kopiago and Tari-Pori development authorities and donors.
The province celebrated this achievement through the installation of Dr Laiam Gizorr Kirau at Margarima last Friday and local woman Dr Reginna Nakira at Koroba on Monday.
Tari-Pori is served by the Tari Hospital.
The event at Margarima coincided with the opening of Dr Kirau’s fully furnished house built at a cost of K1.1 million, presentation of a 45KVA generator worth K60,000, and the presentation of a 10-seater Toyota Land Cruiser bought by the Komo-Margarima development authority at a cost of K200,000.
The installation of Dr Nakira at Koroba Hospital coincided with the opening of a containerised x-ray and pathology laboratory funded by the Australian government.
Australian High Commissioner to PNG Jon Philp was accompanied by Koroba-Kopiago MP Petrus Thomas for the opening of the facilities at Koroba on Monday. Hela PHA chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa said for the two hospitals to become a recognised as level four, they would need additional manpower.
