A POLICEMAN allegedly caught in the room of an inn with 5.66 grams of methamphetamine and tried to resist arrest is expected to appear in court next week, police say.
Sergeant Thomas Moiyang, of the National Drug and Vice Squad, confirmed that the incident happened this week.
The 32-year-old policeman, from Wosera in East Sepik, is facing one count of being in possession of a controlled substance, under the Controlled Substance Act.
“He was the latest meth offender arrested and charged by (members of the police) National Drug and Vice Squad,” he said.
Moiyang said that between 1pm and 2pm on Tuesday, the police drug squad members, following a tip-off, saw a vehicle driven by the policeman at Five-Mile in Port Moresby and decided to follow it.
They followed it from Five-Mile to East Boroko, then back to Gordon where it drove into the inn.
Moiyang said the cop rushed out of the vehicle and went into the inn when he noticed the police vehicle following him.
He was allegedly with a woman inside the room. Police officers ordered him to come out but he refused.
He said policemen sought permission from the duty security officers to enter the room using “reasonable force”.
Moiyang said they caught him with the woman and the 5.66 grams of methamphetamine allegedly dumped in the bathroom sink.
