DURI Pauline Herry, Miss Pacific Island Pageant PNG 2018 contestant, is a firm believer that everyone has the potential to be somebody.
Herry, 25, of mixed East New Britain, North Bougainville and Central parentage, is a trainee pharmacist doing her year-long “residency” with the Health Department.
Herry also believes that education is the key to empowering young men and women.
“I have a medical background, but when I say education, I don’t necessarily mean the normal system of education. It’s learning life skills and the type that can equip a person to survive, especially when the economy is bad right now,” she said.
“There’s always an opportunity out there. Sometimes we’re too lazy. Don’t lower yourself to being nobody. Everyone is worth something.
“It’s not about fame, it’s not about fashion and it’s not about clothes.
It’s basically about empowering a person out there who may have a dream but they just need someone to tell them that they can make it.”
Herry was introduced at the pageant sponsor’s headquarters, Paradise Foods, in Waigani, Port Moresby, yesterday. The Paradise Foods Limited has been supporting this programme for three years.
“It is a great honour to take part in this year’s pageant, “Herry said.
