THE Higaturu Oil Palm in Northern has had its Workers’ Union registered after more than four years of being dormant, says provincial labour officer Copland Gewa.
Gewa said their certificate of registration was presented by the Industrial Registrar Helen Saliau, and deputy secretary policy with Department of Labour and Industrial Relations Maria Lovaga at the Higaturu Oil Palms head office recently.
Lovaga stressed the importance of the union executives partnering with the company to promote the interest and welfare of members.
Higaturu general manager Grant Jeffcot is happy that the company’s workers union was now formally recognised.
Gewa gave a cheque of K20,000 to the union from the Oro government economic intervention programme.
Governor Garry Juffa was acknowledged for working with the provincial labour office to bring back the union.
