THE Christian Democratic Party (CDP) will be among the coalition partners that form the government, says party leader Kelly Naru.
Naru spoke confidently about the party’s chances when congratulating and welcoming MP-elect for Kabwum (Morobe) and CDP candidate Patrick Basa following his arrival in Lae yesterday afternoon.
Basa, the former Deyamos LLG president, was declared on Monday after polling 6724 votes ahead of nearest rival and Pangu Pati candidate Haring Qoreka (5863).
Naru said CDP would be in the government because it wanted services delivered to the people who mandated its members.
“We are lucky because our motto says ‘Friends to all and enemies to none’ so we are free to      talk with any political parties that are thinking of forming the government.”
Naru, who is currently in fourth place in the Morobe regional race, said Basa was the “first seed of CDP” in this election.
An emotional Basa said he would not leave CDP because the party had stood with him in good and bad times until his victory.
