THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) New Guinea Islands (NGI) High Performance Centre facilitated a one-day training session for East New Britain Rugby Football League coaches and referees in Kokopo recently.
The session was led by PNG Kumuls coach Michael Marum.
“There is not much difference in this training compared with the ones we’ve been running for coaches and referees in the Digicel Cup,” he said.
“We are trying to bring the competition to the next level as we look to match the standards set by the National Rugby League and the Intrust Super Cup.”
Marum said it was imperative to run such training for all the PNGRFL-affiliated leagues in the country.
“Leagues need to know the proper planning stages before their seasons start,” he told the participants.
“Some of the basic drills and skills that we are imparting have already been done by our SP Hunters and Kumuls players.
“We are trying to bring that sort of training closer to your door step and we are lucky here that I ve been appointed into this role to travel across the country to deliver it.”
Marum said the training would be held in the Northern, Highlands and Southern confederates.
